Mars may have an active volcano “recently”

Scientists have long known that Mars is actively active in billions of years ago. However, many believe that volcanic activity has long stopped. A team of scientists now believes Mars is volcanically active in a much newer history.

Scientists see what appear to be evidence of a recent volcanic eruption, but recently, they mean on a cosmic time scale. The researchers said the evidence was believed to come from erup calendar in the last 50,000 years. While it’s still a long time, the discovery can have implications to find signs of microbial life on Mars.

This study looks specific in place in the Elysium Planitia area on the Red Planet, specifically see what scientists are called “mysterious dark deposits, which cover the area that is slightly larger than Washington DC.” The deposit seems to be a very subtle layer of ash and stone along the long gap, which looks approximately in the middle of the picture above.

Scientists on projects using data and images collected by various spacecraft and orbiting Mars to support the volcanic origin of the feature. There are many questions about how the feature is made. The team believes that more magmatic sources are likely to be asked to create this type of eruption.

Researchers have found similar eruptions on Mars originating about 3 million years ago. The period of 50,000 years ago will show much younger volcanic corruption. At present, Mars Insight Lander is exploring Elysium Planitia. However, around 1000 miles of this particular deposit. Scientists also believe that if the source of deposit is volcanic, it can indicate that Mars has a condition that can maintain the life of the microbes recently in its history.
