UK sanctions extremist groups and individuals for settler violence in the West Bank

The UK has unveiled additional sanctions targeting those involved in inciting and carrying out settler violence against Palestinian communities in the West Bank. These new measures come in response to a significant escalation in settler violence over the past year and build upon previous sanctions imposed by the UK in February.

The latest package of sanctions encompasses two extremist Israeli groups known for their support and promotion of violence against Palestinian communities, along with four individuals directly responsible for perpetrating human rights abuses against these communities.

This move follows a surge in settler violence in the West Bank, with the UN documenting over 800 incidents since October.

Among the sanctioned groups is Hilltop Youth, a nationalist Israeli youth organization that establishes illegal settler outposts across the West Bank with the aim of expelling Palestinians from the Occupied Territories. Lehava is also targeted for its role in facilitating, inciting, and promoting violence against Arab and Palestinian communities.

Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron emphasized the urgent need to address extremist settlers’ actions, which pose a threat to security, stability, and peace prospects in the region. The sanctions aim to hold accountable the two groups and four individuals responsible for egregious violence against Palestinian civilians.

The Foreign Secretary underscored the importance of Israeli authorities taking decisive action against those responsible for violence. He warned that the UK stands ready to take further action, including additional sanctions if necessary.

The four individuals sanctioned today for their involvement in human rights abuses against Palestinian communities include Noam Federman, Neria Ben Pazi, Eden Levi, and Elisha Yered. These measures include financial restrictions on both entities and individuals, as well as travel restrictions on the individuals implicated in the violence.
