Nintendo said almost 6 million households bought the second switch last year

One switch is not enough for many households. Nintendo revealed in T & J with investors that, in March 31, around 20 percent of the switch units were sold to households that already had it. Working at around 5.8 million consoles, as a gamasutra record.

There are several possible reasons for that. Pandemic, of course, caused more people to play video games last year, so the family might have played like Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit along with a separate console. Some people have bought a Switch Lite to be used solely as the on-the-go engine while their standard switches remain anchored. And maybe, maybe, some people buy a second switch as an expensive way to solve fun problems.

“In the future, we hope that demand for several systems per household will increase even when the sale of hardware units grows,” President Nintendo Shuntaro Furukawa said in the call. “According to the region, significant sales growth continues in Asia, and we believe there are still rooms for sufficient new demand growth in Europe and the United States, given the size of the population.”

It would be interesting to see how much a percentage change over the next year with a pandemic finally subsided. Nintendo is also very expected to release a stronger switch this year and many switch owners today might be looking to improve.

Elsewhere, the intersection of the animal: a new horizon, besides being a big hit in his own book, pushing a newcomer switch to try other major Nintendo franchises such as Zelda and Mario, according to Furukawa. He also noted that Nintendo still dealt with deficiencies and production problems with the switch, which he said was in the middle of his life cycle. Furukawa added that sending to Europe was also postponed by blockage of the Suez canal.
