Dallas Stars coach Peter DeBoer rips reporter who called his team ‘lifeless’ in Game 5 loss

In a commanding performance, the Edmonton Oilers secured a decisive 3-1 victory in Game 5 on Friday night, pushing the Western Conference-leading Dallas Stars to the edge of elimination.

The Stars struggled to generate offense throughout the game, managing just 10 shots on goal over the first two periods. However, they mounted a late surge in the third period, testing Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner and eventually finding the back of the net.

Following the game, Stars coach Peter DeBoer faced scrutiny from a reporter during the postgame news conference. When questioned about his team’s lackluster performance in the second period, DeBoer bristled at the suggestion of a “lifeless” showing and defended his players’ character.

“There’s always room for improvement,” DeBoer responded sharply. “But questioning our character? You haven’t been around all year. I haven’t seen you here all year.”

Expressing his frustration, DeBoer made it clear that he would not engage in further criticism and urged the reporter to “write whatever” they wanted.

With their backs against the wall, the Stars will look to avoid elimination in Game 6 on Sunday in Edmonton. Despite their current predicament, the Stars have shown resilience on the road throughout the playoffs, boasting a solid 6-2 record away from home.
